The award season was opened on Sunday by the 72nd Golden Globe Awards presented by The Hollywood Foreign Press Association held at the glamorous Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. Here are what Drm.am thinks are the Golden Globe 2015 best speeches and jokes.
Really its just an opportunity for the stars to show off elegant frocks and slick suits.
The presenters Tina Fey and Amy Poehler did their last stint at presenting the show and they went with a bang
Taking the mickey of all the nominees, some jokes have been criticized as going to far by the sensitive US media, as their Cosby slur.
Their presentation of George Clooney who received the prestigeous Cecil B. DeMille lifetime achievement award was an instant classic. In the words of Hadley Freeman from the Guardian they gave a feminist view on the ceremony.
George Clooney beeing a good sport didn’t seem to take offence. Then he delivered a very heartfelt
acceptance speech or as heart felt as only a trained Hollywood actor can be, and also showing support for the Charlie Hebdo victims, claiming “we will not live in fear”.
The big VIP of the evening was Prince who came on to present the best Best Original Song – Motion Picture, won by John Legend and Common for Selma the civil rights docudrama. Common gave a emotive acceptance speech claiming “We want to create a better world now is our time to change the world”. Given more importance with the presence of Prince and the influential Oprah Winfrey who also produced and stars in the biopic.
There would not be a proper Golden Globe awards unless Ricky Gervais managed to insult somebody and he came on stage taking a sweep on all famous people as a start:
“If we’ve learned one thing, it’s that famous people are above the law, as it should be. I’m not going to get into the terrible things you’ve done to get here tonight. Streep! Clooney! I’m not even looking at Katie Holmes!”
And the fact that he didn’t manage to pronounce 11 year old Quvenzhane Wallis name. Is being criticized by the US gossip mags like hollywoodlife.com and huffingtonpost.
