Hot climate on the opening night of the 66th Venice Film Festival.
Not so much the weather, which was softened by the summer breeze, than political unrest when, minutes before the start of the red carpet walk-up, a few miles from the palace, outside of the hotel De Bains, riot police clashed with a group of young anti-globalisation protestors demonstrating against the Berlusconi government’s filleting of the arts budget.
