They had promised the 10th of june they would have revealed the opening and closing films of the 12th edition of the FILM4 FRIGHTFEST, and indeed they have.

On thursday the 25th of August DON’T BE AFRAID OF THE DARK will officially open the festival. The film is the debut of director Troy Nixey, but it is written, produced and supervised by Guillermo Del Toro. With such actors as Katie Holmes and Guy Pearce, DBAOTD tells the story of Sally, a young girl forced to live with her father and his new girlfriend in a house apparently infested with creatures who live in the dark. After Del Toro’s The Devil’s Backbone and Pan’s Labyrinth, another movie intriguingly between fantasy and horror where children’s fears and fantasies can be scary and chilling.

On monday the 29th of August the film that will close the kermesse will be A LONELY PLACE TO DIE by Julian Gibey. Starring Melissa George and Ed Speelers, the film is a survival thriller that revolves around 5 mountaneers whose lives will change radically after an unexpected discovery on the Scottish highlands.

The first of July the definitive program of the festival will be released at www.frightfest.co.uk but the countdown has officially started.
