The winners of Prix Circom 2018 are announced!

Prix Circom is the prestigious contest for the best programming and skills in Europe’s TV regions. Every  year they honours the best regional productions. The awards in 1990 and have become the most important international awards for regional programmes. The categories change from year to year. These were the categories this year:

  • Documentary
  • Entertainment and Drama
  • Europe
  • Investigative Journalism
  • Minitories in society
  • Most original and innovative
  • Music and arts
  • News stories for all
  • Video journalism
  • Young onscreen talent
  • Special award for citizenship co-production

The award juries comprise experts working as producers in regional stations. This year the jury consist out of different experts:

Dite Dinesz (TVR Timisoara, Romania), Zsuzsanna Antala (MTVA Szeged, Hungary), Bas Treffers (RTV Oost, The Netherlands), Klaus Unterberger (ORF, Austria), Caroline Ní Dhubhchóin (TG4, Ireland), Carlo de Blasio (RAI Napoli, Italy), Jean-Marc Dubois (France TV), Marta Gómez González (TV Galicia, Spain), Nils Chöler (SVT Nyheter, Sweden), David Holdsworth (BBC, UK), Kacper Kowalewski (TVP, Poland), Gunnar Henrich (Hessischer Rundfunk, Germany), Elina Ravantti (YLE, Finland), Daria Marjanović (HRT, Croatia).

Winner of the Entertainment and Drama category: Grace Harte.

They have just announced the winners of Prix Circom! Grace Harte got the award for the category Entertainment and Drama. It has one season with 3 episodes. Grace Harte is directed by Charlie McCarthy and produced by Wildfire Films from Ireland.

Grace Harte takes place in Ireland in a delapidated hotel. Grace and Leo Harte are both in their 40s. They run a crumbling hotel, Ostán Harte, a fixture on the landscape for many years. Grace is not happy anymore with her marriage. Leo doesn’t share this feeling. Where Grace sees stasis, He’s seeing stability. Grace wants to upgrade the hotel in hope it might inject new life into their relationship but Leo doesn’t agree. As a result, their hotel and relationship seems consigned to a slow descent intro decrepitude. The series opens as the hotel shuts down at the end of the season.

Then Grace meets Danny, a young and ambitious surfer. He is starting a surfing school on the beach adjacent to the hotel. He sees it as a opportunity and provides from the benifits of the tourism. Grace is telling Danny how trapped she feels and that at times she wishes she was rid of Leo. Danny grants her wish and conspires in Leo’s murder but as events unfold, the intended victim is not the main casualty in this tangled web of relationships and betrayal.

Other winners are BBC Yorkshire, BBC London, CT Studio Brno, NRK Norland, NRK Hordaland, SVT Öst and TV2 Fyn Stations. Nordic public service media companies in Denmark, Norway and Sweden have won six of the 10 categories. TV/Midt-Vest from Denmark won two category awards, as did BBC from United Kingdom.

There is still a price left, The Grand Prix Winner: The best of the 10 category winners will be announced next month at the gala awards show at CIRCOM Conference in Leeuwaren, The Netherlands.

Nordic public service media companies in Denmark, Norway and Sweden have won six of the 10 categories of the Prix CIRCOM 2018 – the prestigious contest for the best programming and skills in Europe’s TV regions. TV/Midt-Vest, Denmark, won two category awards, as did the BBC, UK.

As well as NRK Nordland and NRK Hordaland (Norway), SVT Öst (Sweden) and TV/Midt-Vest and TV2 Fyn stations (Denmark), other winners are BBC Yorkshire and BBC London (UK), CT Studio Brno (Czech Republic) and TG4 Ireland. In addition, France TV won the co-production award.

The Grand Prix winner – the best of the 10 category winners – will be announced at a gala awards show hosted by TV station Omrop Fryslân at the CIRCOM Conference in Leeuwarden, The Netherlands, next month.
