This years UK Film Festival London will be a bit different, like the year itself. The festival is moving to an online platform and from 22– 29 November UK and worldwide audience can catch the latest international and award-winning short films without leaving their home. The 2020 edition has once again been curated by twice Berlinale winning director Petros Silvestros, who’s shorts Mike and A Confession have picked up the Crystal Bear for Best Short Film at the Berlin International Film Festival.

The highlight of this years festival is the exciting, character-driven thriller The Big Ugly by Scott Wiper featuring stars Vinnie JonesMalcolm McDowell and Ron Perlman. In the short line-up you can find an entry from Palestine The Present by Farah Nabulsi, which we had a pleasure to review,  hilarious On the Boat by Baizak Mamataliev as well as Irene Maroy’s sensitive and haunting Watermelon Juice. Feature film Yonlu will be having its UK premiere during the festival. Moreover there are some amazing documentaries that should not be missed – Zeliha’s House by Gabriela Gyr and The Cannibals – Voice from 1994 a Danish entry by Chechen film-maker Zulay Magazieva. Not to mention the numerous awards, including Best Short, Best British Short, Best Feature Film, Best Documentary, Best Short Documentary, Best Animation Film, Best Music Video, Best Student Film and new this year: Best Lockdown Short.

 

The Festival stays true to its mission reflecting domestic and international cultural diversity. And even thought under current circumstances the physical event couldn’t take place the show must go on and all the amazing films will be streaming online. So now you have no excuses on why you’ve missed it.
